Divided we fall....

I feel I need want to explain my actions of late. I know I have seemed a bit bat crazy extreme lately. Even for me........but I can not hold my tongue any longer. I can not sit back and do nothing. I am scared of what I see. Angry. I hate what is going on in our country right now. Here.In.Our.Country. Against our brothers and sisters. I probably will never understand it.

I respect ALL religions. I really do. Probably more than most. I'm not out to change anyone. I believe in freedom of religion. I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in freedom. I believe in G-d. I don't hate christians. I embrace all. We are a colorful family. Multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-sexual (is that real) family... BUT, this effects me. Yes, me. There has been so much in the media lately with Prop 8. When I watch the christian groups protesting it breaks my heart. I take it personally as if they were atticking me. Why? Because my dearest, dearest friend is gay as is my sister in-law -- studyin for her Ph.D. Smart cookie. No, geologist. (sorry J....had to brag on you a bit...) Anyway. These. Are.My.People. And I am not ashamed of them. They share something more special than a lot of married couples. Love. True devotion and admiration. RESPECT. I am honored to know them and to have them in my life. Not only do they love... LOVE my chicks....but we love them. Unconditionally. They are who they are. And we accept it. We do not wish to change them. This is not something they chose. They are gay and they too accept it. So, when the christian rights group protest their love... and their union...it hurts... and yes, I take it personally. You have attacked my family. So, yes, I am defensive as any of you would be if they attacked your family! I fear some crazy person will act out in anger against them because they are gay. So, if it is a sin to judge... who gives them the right? None of us are perfect. I believe in equal right for all. I stand firm on this. I will raise my children to love and accept all. I love you R & D... and J & K... be who you are and be proud. Because we are! We will always support you. We stand behind you.

Rony,
I am so with you on this. I know it is a very heated debate. Even within my own family, but God created us ALL equal. I have a good friend (who happens to be a twin) who is gay. She has found someone who she loves and cares deeply for, they are "married" but they do not have full rights where we live and it makes me SO sad.

I PRAY that someday we will look back on same sex marriage and think, why was anyone ever opposed - just as we look back now on segregation and say, What were they thinking?!

Rony, you make me smile.

I'm with you. You could pratically be speaking for me, and I'm even coming from a different place. I have no close friends or family members who are gay (that I know of) and I was raised in an extremely homophobic household (religion, baby). But I purposefully went and re-educated myself as an adult. You cannot LEARN about all the faces of human sexuality and genetics and not walk away with melted away phobias and/or judgements (because they are the same thing).

So, don't appologize for yourself, sister.

Oh, and nothing makes me laugh more than when the judging ones pull out the "don't judge us for our religious beliefs" card. If I do recall, I remember reading about similar arguements coming from slave owners back in the day...

I agree with you 100%!!! Not all Christians feel this way, I promise!!! I believe that the Christian religion teaches that it is wrong to judge and thus I will never understand the zealous Christian groups who pass judgement on others!!!!! It simply isn't the TRUE Christian way!!!
Have a great day!!

Damn right.

The funny thing is, It is a mathematical certainty that those self righteous haters have gay people in their circle of friends and or family too.

If one claims to be a Christian, they would do well to follow the example of Christ. He had opinions about those who make a public display of holiness.

I have a brother who is gay and has a life partner. We(my entire family) love him dearly, he is highly educated, kind and a giving person.
BTW I am a Christian and I believe that Jesus said that,"I am my brother's keeper." Jesus preached tolerance not hate.

And you don't have to apologize or explain yourself friend. :)

Gay-men.

I have several dear people in my network who are gay. One still struggling to 'come out'. This year he had enough and is starting to. This being so hard, in our non religious circles. I can't imagine having to hide amongst a religious influence of friends.

Time will reveal how different we are, and how good things can become of that. Toronto is pretty 'open' for homosexuality. We get all the Americans coming to marry.

There is the bicurious group of people who experiment, which could be said as "influencable" in thought. If fundamental Christians say its all a matter of choice, perhaps this minute group might be what they're referring to. Not the overwhelming majority of gays who know early on, their orientation.

Thank you for putting this out there. No one has the right to judge another. Everyone should have the same rights to freedom and happiness. These are civil rights.
I don't understand why we can't overcome prejudice and let live.
Luckily, Canada is very open minded and homosexuals here are allowed to marry and adopt children. Maybe someday the US will learn that equality applies to all Americans.

I hope and pray that in another generation we won't even need to have this discussion. Acceptance and tolerance starts at home and we all need to do our part to teach love for all (a TRUE Christian value!) people, no matter what race, creed, or sexual orientation.

Agree completely. A person's lifestyle is truly no one's affair unless it is infringing on the rights of others. Separation of church-and-state...separation of church-and-state..

Love love LOVE your new look-and-feel, Rony. I can't believe I've not been here in 2 months. It's awesome. :)

remember, not to long ago it was illegal to marry outside of your race. People are bigoted. It is so horrifying. Honestly, the GLBT couples I know have been in longer lasting relationships than most everyone else I know. I hate, even more, that they are using this to try to define a family. Defining a family tells me that I was not raised in a family as I had no father figure. Grandmothers who raise their grandchildren would not be considered families. Everyone talks about preserving the sanctity of marriage, but so many people get divorced 2 years later. How sanctimonious is that? Meanwhile, people who GENUINELY LOVE each other can't? Asses. Sorry about the diatribe.

Yoli said...

If they only left the judging to God. Marriage between people who love each other is preferrable than a lie maintained because you think you will go to hell. That is what happens to the many rehabilitated gays these people think the church has cured.

Now Rony, please start posting about your plans for the holidays if you got tickets to the inagural bal, what are dressing those adorable little girls in for pictures...share, share the joy.

I feel you on this one!!!!!! There are people in my life who I care about dearly and they have the right to the same rights we all have. We live in such a diverse world and diversity should be embraced and respected. Who are we to judge anyone, everyone has the right to be who they are, practice there religion as they so chose and love who they want. No judgement, no criticism, no interference with their lives.
You are so on the money with this post, I feel the same way and take attacks on my friends personally also!!!!
