Busting out

It was only a matter of time before my girls joined their idols up north. BUT, I was not prepared for the carnage I was to encounter yesterday morning. Denial that it would happen to us. My perfect girls. Bwahahaha. Katie had obviously been studying her get-away for days like a true caged criminal as I later would discover pictures Mai had been taking of the escape artist caught red-handed in the act with leg thrown over the rail trying to bust loose. Anyway, it was your classic "jail-break". She hoisted herself over the railing, hopped on the dresser and then jumped to what she thought was soon to be freedom. Er, well so she thought. You will see the little monkey even figured out how to climb back in the crib! ha ha...

I could here her talking away to daddy as I was getting ready for work. Well, I thought she was talking to daddy. She kept squealing "hi daddy, hi daddy, hi daddy". Funny now when I think about it I didn't hear daddy saying anything. Should have been a lights on for this bright girl...This is the conversation between Jeff and I while I was getting ready for work.
Jeff: "Have you been in the girls room"?
Me: "No".
Jeff: "You haven't been in their room this morning"?
Me: "No".
Jeff: "You haven't been in there this morning"?
Me: as I look at daddy and say a little firmer "No, I haven't why"?
Jeff: "Come with me then, you've got to see something".

As we push open the door to the girls room and see Katie standing in the middle of a total mess. Much to our surprise it had been destroyed. Trasssssshed. Baby wipes everywhere and vaseline smeared on things it shouldn't be. Katie standing in the middle of it all said so calmly "Hi mommy", and grinned from ear to ear. Yep, she was beyond proud. She had created a master piece. A real work of art. As you will see from photos. Jeff and I just started laughing and "mamarrazi" grabbed the camera. Memory shots.

Abbey stood in her crib with the baby wipe container on her head- yeah par-tay girl like her momma and jumped and giggled as if to be saying good job Katie. Great, that's all she needs. More encouragement..... Now, crazylady what do we do?! We have one monkey who has figured out how to get out of the bed (she stays in the bed when we put her to bed at night) and one (which is my wild child) who has not. Help, help, help. My fear now is that she could hurt herself, but I can not put Katie's mattress on the floor and not Abbey's or Abbey will pitch a fit and none of us will get any sleep. You know what that means. If momma doesn't get her sleep momma aint happy. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Where are you crazy momma when I need you.......

Wow. Sorry, no advice here. My girls never tried to get out of their cribs and the worst thing they did when they switched to beds was stay up for 3 hours talking and giggling like teenagers.
Guess I missed out on this kind of fun! You must live with a camera around your neck like I do!
Good luck taming the wrecking crew!

Wow. Is it awful to admit how funny I found all of this?

Well.....they do have those tents you can put over the crib?!?!?!?

Maybe add more toys or books to keep her entertained in there.

A stern talking to! lol

Good luck.....

oh wow! Reminds me of when my Jake and Chloe were 2. How funny!
You know they make crib tents, I don't know if you would want to try that or not. Some people like them. Donna over at Double Happiness who used to do the fri fotochallenge loved hers.
I guess its either that or big girl beds...

Oh, Myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! They are their Mama's daughters... Thank goodness they don't have a chandelier or they might have been swinging from it! heheeeee
Thank goodness they didn't get hurt... the pic of her sitting on the dresser, my heart would have hit the floor. But their little faces were just beaming with thier accomplishments... lol Vaseline... fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You all are scaring me as I know Hannah's time is coming and I am terrified of her falling from her crib. I would think sleep or no sleep once they have figured their escape route their is no turning back! Mama MUST SAY GOODBYE TO THE CAGE....your baby birds have learned to fly.... let me know how it goes so I can learn from your adventures... hahaha

The good news is that she hasn't left the room. She will play (destroy) in the room until we come in to get them. Interesting......

Isn't it wonderful how creative they are?? You have 2 really bright girls over there. Good luck

So so young to be crib hopping! S + A are 28 months and are still content to babble to each other through the crib bars.
Back to your situation...first...you may as well just have handed them a ladder to make their escape. Yes, I am referring to the proximity of the dresser to the cribs. Move it now to the other side of the room. It is an escape enabler.
Get ready to be able to lock the door from the outside to prevent the Twinkies from wrecking havoc on the rest of the house (and to keep them safe too, of course). Prayers always help too. Good luck.

Oh, and by the way I saw the perfect clothes hamper that matches your girls' decor ...but then again do ya want their dirty laundry strewn all over the floor?

insanemommy said...

I moved all the furniture around (like there is any room) and daddy hated it! Grrrr.... As for clothes hamper, we had the custom closet people come out and they have a built in hamper in their closet. I didn't want anything else sitting in the room to "clutter" it up. Remember who you're dealing with here. Neat freak control momma! lol.

I guess you put up the vaseline, wipes and all the other no no stuff out of reach? I had to do that stuff too, and I never had to with my first. Whatever you do put the destin up if you have any of that out and about...My 2 have done it all too. Once they got the foam soap and "decorated" their entire room.

I don't mean to laugh at you, but Bwaa Ha Ha! The fun has only begun! Sydney crawled out of her crib at 16 month and now porudly crawls in and out of her big girl bed. In between she slept on the mattress on the floor for months. My advice, baby proof that room (including tethering the furniture to the wall) and buy two toddler beds. Oh and get ready to have to put your two little pricesses back in bed about 100 times a night for a short bit.

Sorry no advice from this guy.I've not had the wonderful honor of raising kids.Thankfully!
Sounds like your fun is just starting.....wait till she starts sneaking out of the house in her teenage years.

Yes, it is time for the big girl bed and for the putting them back in bed a gazzilion times before they get that she can not get out of it. I am trying not to laugh but they are so cute. Salome did her monkey act a little while back too and scared me to death.

Oh my goodness, I am laughing my arse off here, it is so Miss Jillian to a tee.
Once they tasted freedom there is no going back, one word toddler beds(okay2 words).
Headaches for Mommy, get yourself some bottles of vino and some Advil.

Oh your fun is so over. I have been waiting patiently for this moment of revenge. Your next couple weeks are going to suck.
Empty the room. Both beds on floor. End of story. Lock the door.
Run Forest Run.
Sell your Pottery Barn icons on ebay to other unsuspecting new parents.

Hilarious. Loved all the comments too -- especially crazy lady's.

What a predicament!

How about velcro sheets and velcro pajamas? Oh, I should invent such a thing... I'd be rich, rich, rich!

No help from me. Just came here for a laugh. Mission accomplished!

I love the "caught" smile. Are toddler beds an option? Or tent tops over the cribs? I never had to worry with it as Glenys never slept in a crib but with adults. Brings on a whole lot of other probs.

Ohhhh YES! We've been there done THAT!!!! Kyle and Owen were crazy-crazy-crazy men at bedtime/naptime starting around 18 months. They'd JUMP like MANIACS holding on to their cribrails. They'd jump so high they'd fly right out. They'd go nutso -- absolutely bezerk -- every time we left them in their room in their cribs. We went through 12 month of living hell with it... like, really, I was crying out of sheer frustration more nights than not. Finally, after 12 months and VERY little sleep and a LOT of torment... we put them into separate bedrooms each with their own big boy bed (not toddler bed, we went straight to a regular sized bed). They were 2.5 at the time. It solved all of our problems almost overnight. Literally. Things are still sometimes tough at bedtime, but our life is soooooooooooo much better now!!! GOOD LUCK WITH THIS ONE-------- My guess is it will get worse before it gets better!!! Try to laugh (I know it is hard!).
Right there with ya!

I think Donna from Double Happiness had the right idea...crib tents! Keep them caged for as long as possible!

Ahahahahah. Adorable. See I can laugh at you now...check back with me in a couple of years when my two learn how to escape the cribs and I'll be crying a different tune. =) Crib tents. Yes, I know...locking your kid up in a tent sucks, but hey, you'll get your beauty rest. =)

They are the cutest little monkeys I ever did see!
